EPILOGUE - A Destiny Is Born
"So you told her you loved her and she just left you?" Felicia poured the tea into a cup for herself and Akira. "Yes..." Felicia had expected the two victorious partners to waltz home, smiling and laughing, like the lock and key they were. But Akira had returned alone, heartbroken and lost. "I...I'm so sorry." He shrugged and slammed his bag onto the table. "She didn't even come back to camp. She just...ran away." He bit his lip, attempting to hid the tears. Felicia saw them. Sensing the growth in his soul, she hugged him. His pain stabbed him, so he hugged her back, finding little comfort, wishing that the blue hair would switch to pink. "I can't find her, Felicia!!" He sniffed back the tears, turning away. "Has she got the orb?" He nodded. "It belongs with her...she's the chosen one. I would rather be solitary and believe that she is happy, then be with her and cause her pain..." Felicia felt the tears coming to her. She rubbed one of his shoulders tenderly. "You can stay here as long as you want. I'm going make some snacks. You'll need the sugar when you unpack that!" She wandered into the kitchen, unusually quiet. Akira sighed an thrust a hand into his bag. Rather than the soft warmth of the sleeping bags, his fingers stroked up against, what felt like, a bundle of rags and some paper. He pulled the offending items onto the table. He flicked open the paper with one hand. The scent of Hanako filled the air and he felt his heartbeat increase. He read the words slowly, then more rapidly as he went on.
Akira, All I ever wanted to do was just be with you. And as much as this pains me, I know this can't be. Not until I understand what I am. To Felicia and John, I am a friend, to others, I am a source of infinite power. But what makes me the happiest is knowing that, with you, I am loved. I can't deny that I am in love with you, Akira. But I know I will hold back, feeling useless and confused, and possibly destroy myself in the process, not to mention our relationship. I hope I haven't hurt you, so I have left a memento to prove my distant devotion to you. I'm sure you will see me again, once I have expanded my knowledge and have metamorphosis from the 'moronic bimbo' to a powerful catalyst. Think of me, you know I'll think of you.
Hanako
Once his eyes had dried he flipped open the ball of material. The purple glow filled the room and he gritted his teeth. The glistening orb sat there, a spherical symbol of his pain. He held the now-solidified power to his chest. The aura of Hanako was still with it. He ran his fingers over it and smiled tearfully. Felicia heard the door slam and popped her head round the corner of the kitchen. "Akira??" The apartment was empty except for his back pack and a pile of material. "Akira??" she asked again. "He's gone." the voice said, in an I-told-you-so manner. "Where?" Felicia questioned, as John Talbain stepped out of the bedroom. "You know where...To find Hanako." She tilted her head, smiling. "And whys that?" she beamed "She left him the orb." Felicia jolted at Talbain's words. "And besides. He loves her." he replied. Felicia wrapped her arms around him and sighed. "Do they remind you of us, John?" He laughed to himself and ran his hands down her back. "Well...she's definitely like you..." Felicia grinned to herself. "Yeah...I always said she was special."
